NFL power rankings #31

San fransisco 49ers: The San fransisco 49ers   come in at #31 in my NFL power rankings. They, like the Browns, are a complete mess. The QB position is awful guys. A QB competition between Blaine freaking gabbert and Colin fall of a cliff kaepernick is not what you want at your QB position. Let’s see if chip can turn any of those two qb’s around because both are below average for sure. The running back position is okay. Hyde is a solid starting option when he is healthy but that is a tall order for him. The wide receivers are the worst in the NFL. Torrey smith is only a deep threat and after that is a bunch of no names. The tight ends are Vance McDonald and Garrett celek. Yikes! That’s not what you want. The o line is miserable behind joe Staley and potentially Joshua Garnett. The dline is a strength for the team. Ian Williams, Arik armstead, and deforest Buckner have the potential to form a very good dline. The linebackers are bad. Bowman is getting old, Harold isn’t good, Aaron lynch is suspended. The secondary has the potential to be good with Jimmie ward and tramaine Brock. The safeties, Eric Reid and Antoine bethea, are solid players, and a strong part of this weak roster. The 49ers whole roster is a disaster and will take a long time to rebuild through the draft. Good luck, Sam fransisco.

NFL Latest News and notes

  • Deandre Hopkins has reportedly left training camp and plans to holdout until he gets a new deal. He is a big time wide receiver, with 111 catches for 1,521 yards and 11 touchdowns with below average QB’s throwing him the ball. I would pay him so he comes back to camp and develops chemistry with Brock Osweiler.
  • Andre Johnson has signed a two year deal with the titans, his third team out of four in the AFC South. He was an all time texans player, but started to slow down and they released him. He signed with the colts to try to get a ring, but the colts underwhelmed and Luck got hurt. A 7 time pro bowler, Johnson struggled with only 503 yards and got released one year into his contract. Let’s see if he can revitalize his career in Tennessee and help mentor the young receivers for the Titans.
  • Darius Slay Signed a nice contract extension with the lions for 4 years/50.2M dollar contract extension with 23 million guaranteed. Slay was a 2nd round pick out of Mississippi State and has been great. He is underrated, as he really developed into a shutdown corner and deserved this nice extension.
  • Jets resign Ryan Fitzpatrick to a 1yr/12mil fully guaranteed contract. This was a long contract dispute, but it is finally over. The jets are now playoff contenders again, with Fitz coming off the best year of his career. He had 31 touchdowns to 15 interceptions last year. The jets did lose some key players, but fitz being back saved their season because if he hadn’t, GENO SMITH would’ve been their starter
  • Josh Gordon will be reinstated to the NFL, and will return to the Browns after serving a 4 game suspension. This is big news, as this give RGIII a legit weapon to throw too. He is so talented, as he was like Odell before Odell, but always gets in trouble. This is his last chance.
  • Le’veon Bell is facing a 4 game suspension for not showing up to multiple drug tests. He is a top 3 running back in the NFL, but he can’t seem to stay on the field, whether it’s suspension or injury.

Nfl power rankings #32….The Cleveland Browns

I feel bad for the browns fans. I really do. They have suffered while watching mediocre to below average football for a decade. It’s not going to get much better for the browns this year. Their quarterback situation is bad. They are going to have a QB competition between RGIII and Josh McCown and either way, they are still stuck with a below average quarterback situation. But I do believe Hue Jackson can help turn around RGIII’s career and that’s why he will win the job. The running backs are also awful. Isaiah Crowell and Duke Johnson are not viable options. They need an upgrade so RGIII can have someone to rely on while he masters the offense. The wide receivers were the worst in the NFL but with Josh Gordon coming back after 4 games, it makes the group seem more interesting. Corey Coleman seems like a solid option as well. Gary Barnidge is also a nice option for RGIII. The Oline was good but after Joe Thomas, Mr.consistent, the oline is a little sketchy. They lost both Alex Mack and Mitchell Schwartz so their oline is not as good as people say. The defense is also a mess. The DLine isn’t good. Xavier cooper, Danny Shelton, and John Hughes is not very intimidating to other teams. Linebackers like paul kruger and nate orchard aren’t scaring anyone. Joe Haden is coming off his worst year of his career, and the rest of the secondary is a wreck. Their isn’t really a strength on this team, and the whole roster is a disaster. Another year in mediocrity for the Cleveland Browns.

Overrated athletes

Andrew Luck: All I have heard ever since Andrew Luck was drafted was how great he was. ” He is so smart, can read defenses, great arm, so athletic…”, but watching him and his numbers prove that he isn’t that good. Everyone says that he is so smart. He obviously is a bright guy he went to Stanford. But if he is such a smart player, why does he make so many mistakes. He is a turnover machine (55 picks in 4 seasons.) If he is so good at reading defenses why does he turn the ball over? He has been given this hype about how great he is but he hasn’t really shown it, and it’s year 5 and all eyes are on him to reach his potential. Let’s look at Andrew Luck’s numbers compared to other QB’s drafted in that draft. He is considered to be in Russell Wilson’s class of elite quarterbacks and supposed to be mountains better then a guy like Ryan Tannehill. But this what the numbers say. Andrew luck has a worse completion percentage then Tannehill for their careers at Lucks 58% to Tannehill’s 62%. Him and wilson have similar touchdowns at his 101 to wilson’s 106, but wilson has 34 picks to Luck’s 55. Luck has the numbers in terms of yards and touchdowns, but it’s because he has lots more attempts compared to Wilson and Tannehill because a lack of a running game so those numbers are inflated. Another thing is his injury history. He has a knack of getting hurt and really as a quarterback, your best ability is your availability. The last is the argument is that Andrew Luck is “a winner”. The only thing wrong with that argument is that he has been given that division consistently and beating those crappy teams has been the colts backbone for making the playoffs. Luck is 16-2 against the AFC South for his first three years of his career. So he has relied on beating his division so he can get to the playoffs, and when he got to the playoffs, he was a wreck against the chiefs where it took injuries for the chiefs and a miracle for the colts to comeback, and in the AFC Championship, they lost 45-7. He was also 25th in the NFL in QBR.(Quarterback rating). He has great talent and has a high ceiling but he has been given pre mature hype.

Ben Simmons: This guy was marked as the next Lebron/ Magic coming out of high school. And he was the consensus 1st overall pick for the 76ers. Before I get started I just want to say that the 76ers taking Simmons was a mistake. They have a lot of big guys who don’t stretch the floor and no guards, so in a guard, shooting driven league they take a big guy who can’t shoot. Real smart. But what do you expect they are the 76ers.  But back to the point. Yes, I get what is great about Simmons. He is a phenomenal passer, good rebounder, can handle the ball, and is a great athlete for his size. But he has huge issues I can’t overlook for this “transcendent” talent. One is he can’t shoot. It’s broken guys. He has no confidence in it (3 three point attempts) and it just seems flat. The second is his desire to win. The only way I can explain this is when I watched Ben Simmons played, it seemed like he wanted to play and liked it, but didn’t love it and need it. Lebron and Kobe needed basketball, they breathed it. But guys like Ben simmons don’t.  And in my opinion, great players need that intangible to be great.

Kevin Durant to the Warriors

I had a lot of time to process this and I have came to a conclusion. This move is great for the NBA but also bad for the NBA at the same time. The NBA for the last couple years has bee missing something. A villain. Kevin Durant was the lovable scorer who was loyal to the thunder. Warriors were the team that all got along and were an underdog turned into one of the best teams in NBA history. Lebron was no longer the hated player he was in Miami because he came home and won a ring for Cleveland. Now Kevin Durant and the Warriors are the villains of the NBA. Kevin Durant went from the beloved player who was a great scorer to one of if not the most hated player in the NBA. The Warriors are now the most talented team ever and have so much pressure to win. It is win or bust and I think that’s great for the NBA. Why the move is not good for the NBA is because the playoffs is more ruined then it already was. This year there were 4 teams that had a legit shot at winning a title. The Warriors, cavs, thunder, and Spurs. Now it’s just Cleveland and the Warriors. There is no point of watching the regular season or playoffs because we kind of already know the outcome. My last point is that Lebron has the least amount of pressure on him in his career. He already had little pressure because he delivered a ring to Cleveland, he came through and Had little pressure on him. But now he has none. It seems like the Warriors cheated, and Kevin Durant cheated, their way into a championship. If Kevin Durant wins a title it will be a lot less meaningful then if he did in OKC, like lebrons 1 ring in Cleveland means more than his two in Miami. But now back to the point, Lebron is, for the first time in his career, an underdog, because it’s basically a super team vs him and Kyrie. He has no pressure to win a ring because he just won one and he isn’t expected to win. For the first time in his career.
