NFL Power Rankings #23

The chargers have had a bad offseason. The main storyline of last year was injuries, injuries, and more injuries. The storyline in the offseason was the whole joey bosa mess. They won’t have there first round pick for the whole year and might actually lose him to the draft over a few million dollar difference in guaranteed money. Makes me think that there are some serious money troubles in san diego. They are a mess of a franchise. Let’s look at the roster. The QB situation is still really good. Philip Rivers is still a top 10 quarterback, and a guy who can guide a team with a not a ton of talent to the playoffs. He is just a great quarterback, just watch him play he is great. The running backs are one of the worst in the nfl. Danny Woodhead is a great #2 running back, like Darren Sproles, but can’t be their number one. Melvin Gordon was a “sure thing” in the draft last year and was seen by everyone to be a safer pick then Gurley, but he was terrible last year and it was a hard transition for him into the NFL. The Wide Receivers are pretty good. Keenan Allen is a pretty good #1 wide receiver, and he catches everything. He is a perfect fit with Rivers who loves guys who runs good routes and catches everything and thats Allen. Behind him, Travis Benjamin was good for the browns, and now a good deep threat for them and they also signed james jones who is solid. The tight ends are really good. Antonio Gates is still a very good tight end, and they drafted his successor in Hunter Henry from Arkansas. The Oline is not good. Matt Slauson is a great center, and Joe Barksdale is a good Right Tackle but the rest of the oline isn’t good. Orlando Franklin was a huge disappointment after being a pro bowler for the broncos, and the chargers are hoping he can bounce back. DJ Fluker and King Dunlap aren’t very good as well. The Dline is not good. Darius Philon is awful. Brandon Mebane was okay for the Seahawks, and let’s see if he translates. Corey Luiget has never lived up to his potential and continues to underwhelm. The Linebackers are good. Denzel Perriman was really good, Manti te’o was really bad. The OLB are good as well. Melvin Ingram is really good and Jerry Attaochu is pretty good. The corners are good. Jason Verrett is a stud and a top ten corner in the nfl, and they signed Casey Hayward to be opposite of him. There safeties are not good since they lost Eric Weddle. Dwight Lowery is solid, but Jahleel Addae is bad. Overall this is a team that has the key players like Rivers, Allen, and Verrett, but don’t have a good enough roster overall to compete for the playoffs.

NFL Power Rankings #24

Atlanta Falcons: The Atlanta Falcons were very up and down last year. They started 5-0 and looked like super bowl contenders. But then they kind of fell of a cliff and ended the season 8-8. Devonta Freeman broke out and had a huge season. Julio Jones had a big year. Matt Ryan had his ups and downs. The falcons were a team that was very inconsistent. They added Alex Mack, a great center and had a draft were they drafted for need over value. Lets look at the roster. The quarterback position is solid and pretty average. Matt Ryan had a really high grade on PFF, but watching him last year, I thought he was really average and had the worst year of the year. The running back position is good. Devonta Freeman is pretty good, not really good, but above average. He is great out of the backfield. Tevin Coleman is a talented backup. The wide receivers are top heavy but have NO depth. Julio Jones is an absolute monster. He is physically dominant and amazing. But after him there is nobody. The bengals have wanted Sanu to play better his whole career but he has shown flashes but no consistency. Everyone talks about Justin Hardy and how he is really good but he had like 6 catches last year. Behind those three, there is nobody. The tight ends are bad. The oline is really good. Jake matthews and Ryan Schraeder are great tackles. The guards are really good too. Levitre and chris chester. The center is great in Alex Mack. The defense has potential, but not proven yet. The dline has its good parts and bad parts. Derrick Shelby was a nice acquisition from the Dolphins. He will be good. Tyson Jackson is below average. Grady Jarrett was a very good rookie last year and has nice potential. Brooks reed disappointed last year and is looking to bounce back. But overall the dline is good. The linebackers are unproven but all have talent. Deion Jones was a second round pick and is very athletic but isn’t a natural football player. Devondre Campbell is a nice player but isn’t experienced. Vic Beasley is playing the SAM after playing DE last year so let’s see if he can translate to a new position. The cornerbacks are really good with Desmond Trufant and Robert Alford. The safeties are also pretty good in Keanu Neal and Ricardo Allen. The Falcons have talent but I’m not sure with the mixture of change and the schedule that if they can make the playoffs this year.

College football preview…my top 10, heisman and playoff picks

1. Clemson: clemson is my number one team in college football. They have the best player in college football. He is a skinnier cam newton and is unstoppable. He can throw with the best of them and can scramble. He is great. They are returning Wayne gallman, Scott, leggett, and mike Williams. There defense has great athletes. They are the best team in the country and I have no idea why anyone has Alabama over them.

2. Oklahoma: Oklahoma has a great offense and great athletes on defense. They have baker mayfield and samaj Perine on offense. They are set.

3. Michigan: they have the best oline-dline combination in the big ten. They are well coached and have a nice running game. They have everything possible to make the playoff. Jabrill peppers is a stud.

4. LSU: Leonard fornette, the wide receivers, and the defense are all great. The only thing is if Harris can protect the ball and be average. If so, LSU will be amazing.

5. Florida state. The defense has so many stud athletes and dalvin cook is amazing. The QB situation is suspect.

6. Alabama; they have great players everywhere on defense and oline. But the quarterbacks and running backs are questionable. Calvin Ridley at wide receiver is great.

7. Tennessee: this is there year to win the sec east. Defensive studs like Derek Barnett and the three headed monster of Dobbs-Hurd-Kamara.

8. Ohio state: reminds me of the team that won the national championship. A great coach, great quarterback, but a lot of unproven talent.

9. Ole miss: Chad Kelly is great and there are great athletes all over. Just not sure if they are buttoned up and in mid season form for Florida state.

10. Houston. Returning many great players from team last year like QB ward.

NFL Power Rankings #25

Philadelphia Eagles: The Eagles come in at #25 in my NFL Power Rankings: They, like the Rams, decided to give up a ton of picks to trade up to the #2 pick to select Carson Wentz, a big quarterback out of North Dakota state. Wentz is the future in Philly, but not the present. He probably won’t get any playing time this year outside of garbage time. Let’s breakdown the roster. The quarterback position is kind of a mess. They drafted Wentz, and signed BOTH Bradford and Chase Daniel is big contracts. Bradford will probably start. I really don’t like bradford, but he was actually descent last year. Daniel is a good backup and gets the new system since he used to play for the coach. The running back situation is bad. I don’t think Ryan Mathews is a good fit for the system, plus he is always injured. Darren Sproles is still a great #2 running back, but he can never take the workload of being a number one back. They let go of Murray. That was a good move he was awful last year, but I think he would be a good fit in the running system of new coach Doug Pederson. The wide receivers are bad. Jordan Matthews underwhelmed many last year with huge expectations going in. On PFF, he had a 68 grade, well below average and he is one of the worst number one receivers in the league. They will put him in the slot again and see how he does. After him, it is just a bunch of guys. Reuben Randle flashed for the Giants, but was very inconsistent. Nelson Agholor was terrible as a rookie. There is something about USC receivers, they look great in college then suck in the pros. Dorial Green-Beckham, who they recently acquired from the titans, has all the tools, but isn’t a natural catcher of the football and is kind of a clown. Eagles, along with the titans, have the worst receivers in the NFL. The tight end position is pretty good. I think Zach Ertz is very good. He was given a grade of 85/100 by PFF, good enough to be the 6th best tight end in the NFL. Definitely a strength. Behind him, Brent Celek is still solid. The Oline has it’s bright spots and bad spots. Jason peters is still great at Left Tackle. So was Lane Johnson but he got suspended 10 games. Jason Kelce is good at center. But the guards are either not good or unproven. I actually really like the defense. The dline is actually really good. Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham, and Vinny Curry all got high grades on PFF at 90, 85, and 79 respectively. They are all really good. Connor Barwin had a down year, but has shown in the past that he can be really good. The Linebackers are okay. The rookie last year Jordan Hicks was very good last year, but bigger name linebackers Mychal Kendricks and Nigel Bradham were awful last year. Lets see if they can bounce back. The cornerbacks are awful. Leodis McKelvin was bad last year for the bills, and he is their number one corner. After him they have average to below average guys like Nolan carrol and Eric Rowe. The safeties are really good in Malcon Jenkins and free agent signing Rodney Mcleod. The best position on the roster by far. Overall this is a roster that needs to regather itself after being taken apart by Chip Kelly. They have talent, but have too many holes for them to compete.

NFL Power rankings #26

6New Orleans Saints: The saints were a team who could put up points but couldn’t stop anyone as there defense was atrocious. This is a team that can either be a surprise team that wins 10 games or they go 4-12. All depends if the defense improves because the offense is there. Let’s look at the roster. The quarterback position is great.  Drew Brees is continuing to put up big numbers and produce at a high level. At running back, they have a nice young running back and depth. Mark Ingram, when healthy, is a solid running back who can catch out of the backfield. Then they have Spiller, who I had higher hopes for and he disappointed, is still great out of the backfield as a additional receiver. Tim Hightower is the third running back who is a bruising runner. All around they are good there. The wide receivers are solid. Brandin Cooks is a very good number 2, but a number 1 receiver.  Actually, Snead graded out better then cooks on PFF, so they have two good receivers. After that, Michael Thomas, the rookie, has good potential and so does Brandon Coleman. They need to add more depth. The saints big offseason signing was Coby Fleener. There are two reasons to believe he will succeed. One, Tight ends have done very well in that system and two, Drew Brees loves his tight ends. I think he will really do well in New Orleans. The Oline is really good. Terron Armstead is a great left tackle. He was given a grade of 91 by PFF, and rated as the third best tackle in the NFL behind Joe Thomas and Tyron Smith. Right tackle Zach Strief is really good run blocking tackle but can also pass block. He is a good player. Max Unger is a good center they acquired for Jimmy Graham. He is a good pass blocker and is the leader of the oline. The left guard, Tim Lelito, is pretty good. The only issue is the right guard. Its Andrus Peat right now, the 1st round pick last year from Stanford. He is a natural tackle, not guard. The offense is not the problem with the team. The problem is the terrible defense. The dline is pretty good at best. Cameron Jordan is great. He can do both stop the run and pass rush. Opposite him is darryl Tapp. He is a good run defender but offers nothing in the pass rush. Nick Fairley is one of the defensive tackles, while the other was supposed to be Sheldon Rankins but he got hurt. The linebackers are very weak. James Laurinaitis, stephone anthony, hau’oli Kikaha, and craig robertson all are below average. The secondary is okay. Delvin Breaux is very good and underrated. After him there is not much. Pj Williams and Damian Swann are the next couple corners. The safeties are very good. Kenny Vaccaro and Jarius Bird make a nice duo. All in all this is a team that is depending on the defense to step it up and if not they are screwed.

NFL Power Rankings #27

Los Angeles Rams: The Rams come in at #27 in my NFL power rankings. The story of the Rams offseason was them trading up in the draft for their QB, Jared Goff. I was a big Goff fan, but they gave up the farm for him. Kind of ironic how they traded RGIII for all those pics to now being the team trading up. They were desperate for a franchise QB. I understand why they did because there QB’s last year were case Keenum and nick foles. Ok let’s look at the roster. The QB situation is a weakness now. Goff is a natural quarterback, but the transition to the NFL will be tough for him coming from the cal system. So if case Keenum starts, that sucks your losing a bunch of games. The running back situation is very good. Todd gurley is a stud and is loaded with potential. He will lead the NFL in yards because he will be given the ball a ton with a rookie quarterback and Jeff fisher as the coach. The wide receivers suck. Tavon Austin….he’s just bad. He is versatile but not really good at anything on most teams he’s just a change of pace guy. Kenny britt same thing he is average at best. Tight end, lance kendricks? Uhhhh that’s terrible. Olineman like Greg Robinson have potential but never seem to reach it. Rodger saffold is solid. The rest of the offensive line kind of sucks. The defense is pretty good. Aaron Donald is amazing. He’s so good I can’t describe it. He does everything well and the best defensive tackle in the NFL. Brockers opposite Donald is a solid run stopper. The ends are good with Robert Quinn and William Hayes. The dline is really good. The linebackers are okay with Alec ogletree, Akeem ayers and mark Barron. They are inconsistent, but talented. The corners are average. Trumaime Johnson is very good. Behind him, I don’t really know. They lost Jenkins to the Giants. Lamarcus Joyner is the second who is average, and there is no depth after him. The safeties are bad and they are guys I don’t even know. Overall this team is a team with some talent that won’t do much until Goff develops.

NFL power rankings #28

Miami Dolphins: The miami Dolphins come in at #28 in my NFL power rankings. They have talent on the roster, but the QB, new coach, and How the talent plays together will be the reason the Dolphins have a down year. Let’s breakdown the roster. At quarterback, Ryan Tannehill is very average. He is solid when he has protection, but that is a stretch. He has been under duress his whole career. He is athletic, has a solid but not big arm, and has solid options around him. I think gase as the coach allows him to have a big year. The running back is a weakness. Jay ajayi and Arian foster will split carries and let’s see if either one can stay healthy. The wide reveivers are a strength. Jarvis Landry is a beast, kind of reminds me of a poor mans Antonio brown, devante Parker is a young receiver with a ton of potential. Kenny stills is a solid deep threat. Jordan Cameron at tight end is okay. He was good with the Browns but was very disappointing last year. I think he bounces back and has a solid year. The oline is talented, but inconsistent. They have 3 tackles, Ju’wan James, Brandon Albert and laremy tunsil and center mike pouncey are good players but the guards are bad. The dline is also good. They lost Oliver Vernon, but suh, Mario Williams, and Cameron wake lead a talented defensive line. The linebackers are pretty bad. Alonzo is Good but can’t stay healthy, and the rest of the linebackers are bad, like jelani Jenkins and koa misi.  The cornerbacks are not good. Byron maxwell sucked, and the rest of the corners are scrubs. The safeties are very good led by reshad jones. Overall the Dolphins are talented, but will have a year of growing pains before exploding next year.

NFL Power rankings #29

Detroit Lions:  The Detroit Lions come in at #29 in my NFL Power Rankings. They were pretty bad last year, after an 0-5 start, Stafford got hot and finished 7-9. Let’s look at the roster. The QB position is average to above average. Stafford has a big arm and a lot of talent, but like his division foe Jay Cutler. He will put up big numbers like usual, but will worthless production accumulate to wins in the NFC North. The running back position is below average. Ameer Abdullah is an okay running back, Theo Riddick is great out of the backfield as a receiver but doesn’t offer much as a running back. Wide receivers are also bad with megatron retiring. Marvin jones is average, Golden Tate hasn’t played well when asked to be the main guy. The Tight Ends were solid, but depending on Eric Ebron’s injury, it could lead to them having to start Brandon Pettigrew, which is not good. The offensive line is getting better with the draft pick of Taylor Decker, but is still developing. So overall the offense is not very good. The dline is pretty good with two stars in Ziggy Ansah (who I think is an absolute stud) and Ngata. The Linebackers are bad. Whitehead and Van noy?  Barely know who those guys are. The Cornerbacks are solid. Darius Slay got a nice contract, and I think he is a top 5 cornerback in the NFL. He is underrated and is a nice foundation for the roster. The safeties are okay with Glover Quin Leading the way. The Lions have been up and down the last couple years and after big expectations with not so good results, (7-9) they will have a down year, Jim Caldwell will be fired, and Matt Stafford will be questioned, wondering if he is the guy.

Top 10 Bold predictions NFL

•the Browns go 0-16: I know the Browns are really bad but is it possible? Yes, it is. They are in a very good division, and their overall schedule is pretty hard. Plus there roster is awful, their QB situation is bad, and they have zero strengths on their team.

• Todd gurley will win OPOY: He was very good last year, he is in a run heavy offense, and he has a rookie quarterback who will rely on him. Sounds like gurley will have a monster season and win offensive player of year.

• Broncos will miss playoffs: There are a couple of reasons why the Broncos will metaphorically fall off a cliff. There quarterback will most likely be mark Sanchez, everyone in the division improved, and they lost key pieces in there two QB’s, Malik Jackson, Damny trevathan,Evan Mathis they lost too much to recover. Plus we have seen teams like the Giants and Ravens Win a super bowl and then miss the playoffs the next year. I think the same will happen for the Broncos.

• odell beckham has 2,000 revel being yards: He was a star since the moment he entered the league and I don’t think there has ever been this big of a Rise from  player this young. Anyway, he is so dynamic and with his big play ability, has a true posibility of being the first wide receiver to ever get 2,000.

• Kirk cousins proves to be fools gold: Kirk cousins, after years of struggling and throwing interceptions, had a breakout year and led the redskins to the playoffs. This was so sudden and surprising and expectations are sky high coming into this year. I think he isn’t nearly as good as last year and is a disappointment.

• josh Norman struggles and is in danger of roster spot: the panthers let Norman go because they didn’t think he was a crucial part to their roster. Now he is apart of the redskins after signing a 5yr/75m dollar contract. I think he was a product of the Panthers system and will struggle mightily with having to play man against the best reveivers in the NFL.

•  cam wins back to back MVP’s: this one isn’t that bold. He is the best player in the NFL and will prove that again.

• raiders will win the AFC west: they have the best roster in the division. They have a stud QB-WR duo, they have a great o line, and on defense they have stud LB’s in Maxk and Bruce Irvin and Reggie Nelson is the secondary. They will go 10-6 and make the playoffs.

• Ezekiel Elliot will rush for 1700 yards: I think with the combination of his skill set and the oline, plus quantity because they want to keep romo healthy, he will have a lot of carries and a lot of yards.

• josh Gordon will have 1000 yards: he was Odell before Odell. He has immense talent and RGIII will look his way at will. After the 4 game suspension, he will come back and have a big year. He will be the guy who had 1646 yards.

NFL Power rankings #30

Tennessee Titans: the Tennessee Titans come in at number 30 in my NFL power rankings. They have had a couple rough years and back to back first overall picks. May be another rough year Titans fans. The quarterback situation is pretty solid. Marcus mariota showed flashes of being a great quarterback, but couldn’t put all the pieces together consistently. He needs to work on his deep accuracy but his short and intermediate passing was great. The running backs have definitely improved. They acquired demarco Murray and drafted Derrick Henry. They will approach the ground and pound offense. The wide receivers are pretty weak. Kendall wright is average, Richard Matthews was a good sign and will have a good year. DGB disappointed in his rookie season. Delaine walker continues to produce and makes TE a strength. The oline is okay, with Lewan and Conklin anchoring the tackles. The guards and center is pretty weak though. The front 4 is pretty solid led by star jurell Casey. Brian orakpo leads the edge rushers. The linebackers are okay with Avery Williamson and Wesley Woodyard. The cornerbacks are not good. Jason mcCourty is overrated and parish cox is overpaid. The safeties are also okay, with da’norris searcy and Rashad Johnson. Overall the team has nice building blocks with core players, but have way too many holes in the secondary, linebackers, wide receivers and oline. Let mariota develop and continue to improve the rest of the roster.
