Week 1 NFL Picks

Steelers vs Browns: I really do like the direction the Browns are going in, however, even with Le’veon Bell out, I doubt that the Browns can pull out a win today over the steelers. Expect big days from Antonio Brown and James Connor.

Steelers 24 – Browns 17

Pit -3.5

Bengals vs Colts: This game is very tricky to predict. The Bengals have the more talented team and its not close. But with Andrew Luck back, and the Colts having the home crowd behind them, it becomes a toss up. I think the bengals win a close one because they are simply more talented.

Bengals 27 – Colts 23

Bengals +1.0

Titans vs Dolphins: This game is going to be closer then people think. I don’t love the Dolphins, or even like them for that matter, but I just have a feeling that they come out and win this game behind a big day from Kenyan Drake.

Dolphins 20 – Titans 17

Miami -1.0

49ers vs Vikings: With the loss of Jerick McKinnon, I have cooled off on the 49ers. I love the future of this team and they will be competitive, but they aren’t good enough on both sides of the ball to go into Minnesota and steal one.

Vikings 31 – 49ers 21

Vikings -6.0

Texans vs Patriots: Expect a high scoring game between two of the best teams in the league which will end the same way it did last year. A patriots win.

Patriots 35 –  Texans 31

Texans +6.0

Bucs vs Saints: This game is going to be a joke. It wouldn’t be close even if Winston was playing. Expect a big day from Kamara, as he went off last time they played and that was with Mark Ingram.

Saints 35 – Bucs 13

Saints – 9.5

Jaguars vs Giants: This game is going to be a good one. Star power everywhere. The reason I am picking the Jaguars is because Eli won’t be able to move around in the pocket, leading to an abundance of sacks. I think Bortles does just enough to win.

Jaguars 17 – Giants 14

Giants +3

Bills vs Ravens: Nathan Peterman is starting.

Ravens 38-  Bills 10

NFC west predictions

Rams: You look at the roster and…wow this team is loaded. The offense is run by very good young QB Jared Goff and workhorse RB Todd Gurley. The receivers look nice with the addition of pro bowler Brandin Cooks. With McVay running the show, the offense is going to be explosive. They were amazing on offense, expect it to be great again. But the offense isn’t the key change on this team, its the defense. They completely overhauled their secondary, trading for pro bowlers Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib. They also signed Suh, who was a free agent, making that D-line very scary with newly paid best defensive player in the league Aaron Donald. Big year for the rams, as they look to take advantage of Goff being on a rookie deal.

13-3

49ers: The timeline for the 49ers to seriously compete has jumped significantly due to how unexpectedly great Jimmy G was. It is the main reason why everyone seems to be so excited about this team. I to, am excited. Jimmy G was great, going 7-0. The loss to Jerick McKinnon is quite unfortunate, and the receivers look underwhelming, tho Goodwin looks really good. The offensive line is improved with the addition of McGlinchey and Weston Richburg.  The defense looks descent, but I see a big jumps with Reuben Foster, Deforest Buckner, and Solomon Thomas. I don’t expect playoffs, but I do expect them to be pretty good.

8-8

Seahawks: Not excited for this team at all. I love Russell Wilson and Doug Baldwin, but the rest of this offense is a mess. They lost Jimmy Graham and Paul Richardson, the offensive line is still a mess, and I don’t like their first round pick, Rashaad Penny. The defense looks downright embarrassing. I look around, and besides Bobby Wagner, KJ Wright, and Frank Clark, I don’t really recognize anyone. The secondary went from the legion of boom, to the legion of doom. The whole Earl Thomas situation is messy. This team will not be good, and I can see Pete Carroll being shown the door at the end of the season.

5-11

Cardinals: I don’t trust Sam Bradford. He is incredibly average when he does play, and that is until he ultimately gets hurt, forcing rookie QB Josh Rosen to start, and I don’t like starting rookie QB’s with bad o-lines. Their offensive line is horrible. Fitz seems to be timeless but there is not much behind him. David Johnson is back so yay. The defense looks pretty good. I like Chandler Jones will compete for DPOY, and the secondary looks pretty good led by stud Patrick Peterson, but there are holes all over. With a new coach, I see a transition year for Arizona.

5-11

NFC South predictions

Falcons: I absolutely love the Falcons this year. They “underachieved” last year by making the playoffs and almost beating the eventual super bowl champs in their place. They also have another year with Sark as their OC, they drafted Calvin Ridley, and Devonta freeman is finally healthy. While Jalen Ramsey called Matt Ryan “overrated”, I adamantly disagree. The former MVP is one of the best in the game. He has a steady stable of RBs, and one of the best WRs in the game. Julio is a freak of nature and everyone knows it. The offensive line is top 5 in the NFL. The defense is so underrated. While it isn’t the best, I love how modern it is with speed on all three levels. I think they have the talent to get back to the big game.

12-4

Saints: The saints were one of the biggest shocks in the NFL last year. The offense was great as always, but the shock wasn’t that, the shock was the defense being pretty good. Drew Brees runs the show and he is a legend for a reason. Hes great. Alvin Kamara was a great story last year, and he lives up to the hype. He’s unbelievable. Michael Thomas continues to be slept on. The offensive line is descent. The defense is pretty good, but that is a huge improvement on what things used to be like. Cameron Jordan showed everyone why people within the league look at him so highly. Martin Lattimores arrival was the changing point of the season, as he gave them the lockdown corner they needed. I think they ride the momentum they had last year. Just teach Marcus Williams how to form tackle and they are destined for great things.

10-6

Panthers: I had big expectations for the panthers and they didn’t let me down. Cam Newton bounced back and had a nice season. McCaffery was exactly what he needed. They also added Dj Moore in the draft, a guy I really liked, and Greg Olsen. The offensive line is below average and is kind of concerning. The defense is always good as long as everyone stays healthy. The secondary is pretty average. The panthers are just missing something and I can’t exactly put my finger on it.

9-7

Buccaneers: The Bucs completely fell on their face last year. Winston is looking more and more like a bust. His suspension is not a good look, not franchise QB worthy. They have some weapons on offense, with the addition of Ronald Jones, star receiver Mike evans and tight ends OJ Howard and Cameron Brate. They also have so many stars on defense. Gerald McCoy, JPP, Lavante David, and Kwon Alexander. But something is wrong with this team. Coaching, leadership, Im not sure what it is, but I don’t see anything happening with this team.
