49ers season preview

Navarro Bowman

Offense: The offense continues to be a struggle. Brian Hoyer is an average, Journeyman NFL QB, so he is nothing special. He is fine, but not good. The running backs are not good either. Carlos Hyde is talented, but your best ability is availability and he is always hurt. The guy behind him, rookie fourth round pick, quit football so I can’t trust his passion for the game. The wide receivers have added talent like Pierre Garcon, but still lack in terms of depth and stardom. The tight ends are okay with Vance McDonald. The offensive line is horrible outside of Joe Staley, who is getting old. Hopefully new head coach Kyle Shanahan can work some of his magic, because this offense is not looking too good.

Defense:The defense has definitely added talent, but it still has a long way to go. I love the talent on the dline with Solomon Thomas, Deforest Buckner, and Arik Armstead. The linebackers have an aging veteran star Navarro Bowman to teach rookie future star Reuben Foster (my favorite player in the draft) how to play in the NFL. Like the pieces at linebacker. The secondary is a mess with busts and unproven guys. The like Jimmie Ward at safety and Rashaud Robinson at corner, but that is kinda it. The like the potential for the defense, but it definitely needs to add more talent.

Rams season preview

Jared goff

Offense: There are a couple guys in the NFL that I just like and want to succeed. One of those guys is Jared Goff. Loved him out of cal and still think he is going to be really good. He looks more comfortable in the pocket and more confident. I expect big things from Jared Goff this year. I also expect a bounce back year from Todd Gurley. He was bad last year, but great his rookie year. I am betting he returns to form just because he is too damn talented. The wide receiving core also looks very promising. Acquiring Sammy Watkins gives the group the speed threat they sorely lacked. He just needs to stay healthy. Cooper Kupp was my guy in the draft this year, as I had him higher then Mike Williams. He has been blowing it up so far. Him and Goff seem to have great chemistry. Robert Woods and Tavon Austin are very good 3rd and 4th options in a receiving core, so I like the depth too. The tight ends are okay, but have potential. Tyler Higbee and Gerald Everett will fight it out for the starting job, but both have high upsides. The offensive line isn’t great, but it will improve with the addition of left tackle Andrew Whitworth, one of the best in the game. Overall, I expect big things from the rams offense this year.

Defense: The defensive line looks good, led by probably the best defensive player in football Aaron Donald. Just pay him the money he deserves, he is great. I like Brockers opposite him too. Robert Quinn is solid and I think Connor Barwin bounces back from last years bad year. The linebackers are not ideal, as they have a bunch of B- C+ kind of players like Mark Barron and Alec Ogletree. The cornerbacks are not great either. With the loss of EJ Gaines, the only proven corner they have on their roster is Trumaine Johnson. The safeties are really good though. Maurice Alexander and Lamarcus Joyner are both really good football players, and will hopefully help hide the corners mistakes. The defense is not as strong as it used to be, but it can be pretty good.

Cardinals season preview

Buccaneers Cardinals Football

Offense: At QB, we have Carson Palmer. He was great 2 years ago, finishing 2nd in MVP voting and leading this Cardinals team to the NFC championship, where they got destroyed by MVP winner Cam Newton. Last year, he battled injuries and looked to have lost some arm strength. He just looked older and more brittle. Now to the star of the team. At running back, David johnson has been a superstar. Last year he had over 2200 total yards and 20 touchdowns. He also had 80 catches. Woah. He was the cardinals offense last year, and he will be their offensive identity this year. The wide receivers are okay this year, but might be screwed soon if Larry Fitz decides to hang up the cleats soon, even though he is still really good. John Brown was a huge disappointment last year, however JJ Nelson impressed me. The tight end position is below average. Jermaine Gresham is okay, but can’t stay healthy. The offensive line is pretty good at every spot, but not great at one. If everyone stays healthy and Palmer is better then last year, the offense can be quite good.

Defense: The defensive line is going to be really good, especially is Robert Nkemdiche can get his act together. Chandler Jones and Marcus Golden are both great pass rushers off the edge, and if Nkemdiche can be as dominant as his potential indicates, this could be scary. The linebackers are average. Karlos Dansby is getting old, but I really like the versatility of first round pick Haason Reddick. The cornerbacks are okay as well. Patrick Peterson is a stud, but behind him is nothing to brag about(Cough Justing Bethel Cough). The safeties have the potential to be outstanding. The honeybadger Tyrann Mathieu has been great when healthy, and I really liked the second round pick of Budda Baker. Watch out QB’s, that;s scary. Overall, the defense has pieces, they just need to mesh and have some guys step up.

Seahawks season preview

russell-wilson-tri-e1436223459699

Offense: This offense relies solely on the guy above in the picture. Russell Wilson. He is a great QB who is an even better leader and person. One of the best in the league. The running backs. Well, there are a lot of them. Eddie Lacy is overweight and Thomas Rawls always is hurt. They need someone to step up to take pressure off of Wilson, but I don’t think they have the horses to do that. The wide receivers are pretty good. Doug Baldwin continues to be underrated, and the cast around him are guys we have seen for years like Jermaine Kearse and Paul Richardson. The tight ends are really good. Jimmy Graham had a bounce back year last year and looked good, and I liked the depth. The offensive line is trash. Its one good player, Justin Britt the center, and then a bunch of trash. Wilson will be running for his life. This offense is Wilson or bust.

Defense: The defense is loaded on all three levels. Michael Bennett continues to be a complete stud. He is so disruptive. Next to him is Cliff Avril, who continues to be really good, and Jarren Reed. The d-line looks good. The linebackers are great. Bobby Wagner is the 2nd best linebacker in the NFL and a freak athlete. KJ wright continues to be one of the most underrated in the NFL. The linebackers look really good. The secondary is so good as well. We all know Richard Sherman is great, as he has been for years. They added Trumaine Brock opposite him and I like the depth there. The strength of the team are the safeties. Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor are both All-Pro level players and complement each other perfectly. Overall, the defense will be great once again.

Saints season preview

New York Giants v New Orleans Saints

Offense: Despite the loss of Brandin Cooks, the offense, like every year, looks really good. Drew Brees is a HOF and has shown no signs of slowing down. He is so good. The running backs are gonna be a committee, but they are all pretty good. Adrian Peterson might be washed up, but the upside is outrageous and Mark Ingram has been pretty good throughout his career. Alvin Kamara is a guy a really liked coming out of Tennessee. Overall, the running backs can be good. The wide receivers are pretty good. Brees will probably make them look great, but Cooks being gone will hurt. Michael Thomas is a beats though. Tight end Coby Fleener is trash. The offensive line was really good, but lost the starting left tackle T.Armstead went down for the year, so rookie Ryan Ramzcyk has to step up. Overall, the offense will be good as long as drew bress- Sean Payton are together.

Defense: Sucks. Still sucks. The defensive line is pretty good. Cameron Jordan is the star of the defense and sheldon Rankins is pretty good, but lacks overall balance. The linebackers are not good and continually hold back this team. Stephone Anthony, woah has been such a bust. The cornerbacks have potential but are young and inexperienced, led by Marshon Lattimore. Kenny Vacarro and Vonn bell make up a solid Safety core. Overall, this defense still needs more talent and that’s insane because they have been drafting to fix it for years.

Buccaneers season preview

Tampa Bay Buccaneers v Atlanta Falcons

Offense: The offense has its clear strengths and weaknesses. Jameis Winston is on the brink of stardom, and he has clearly established himself as a franchise QB. He is a great leader and great player. The running backs are not good. I think Doug Martin bounces back, but he was horrible last year. Jaquizz Rodgers is a good 3rd down back, but he can’t be the guy. Jeremy McNichols and Charles Sims will fight for the 3rd spot. The wide receivers are great. Mike Evans is spectacular. So good. Adding Desean Jackson is the perfect compliment as a deep threat. I like the depth there too with rookie Chris Godwin. Tight end is really good too. Cameron Brate was really good and all they did was add the best rookie tight end in OJ Howard. The position is loaded. The key weakness is the offensive line, especially the tackles. They have to improve at o-line in order to be great.

Defense: The defense has pieces everywhere but does not have the depth necessary.  The d-line is pretty good. Gerald McCoy is a beast, everyone knows it. But besides him, Ayers and Spence are alright, and I don’t even know who the 4th guy is. Lacks Balance. The linebackers are the best part of the defense. Lorenzo Alexander and Levonte David are both stars and are both building blocks. They continue to be very good. The secondary has potential, but it is not great. Brent Grimes had a career year last year, lets see if he continues his success, and while Vernon Hargraves III had his struggles last year, he flashed potential. The safeties are okay, with Keith Tandy being a standout and Chris Conte just being a guy. Overall, this defense has players to build around, but they have a lot of holes as well.

Falcons season preview

julio-jones-tri1-e1443522160663

Offense: Last year, everything went right for the Falcons offense. It was historically great. Led by MVP quarterback Matt Ryan. He was more then great last year, and I expect nothing less this year despite the loss of Kyle Shanahan. The running backs are also really good. Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman make up for the best 1-2 duo in the NFL. The wide receivers are really good, led by Julio Jones, who is a beast. Sanu and Taylor Gabriel are also good to round out the group. The tight end group is not very strong, with Austin Hooper and Jacob Tamme being limited. The offensive line is really strong, led by Alex Mack who was the key piece they needed, and Jake Matthews. Overall, the offense should be REALLY good once again.

Defense: The defensive line is okay, with D. Poe being a really good addition and Grady Jerrett being a stud. Lacks balance and depth though. The linebacking core is really good. Vic Beasley is a stud. 15.5 sacks led the NFL last year. Deion Jones was a beast as a rookie and will continue to get better. The cornerbacks are good with Desmond Trufant and Robert Alford. The safeties are a strength for the defense. Rocardo Allen and Keanu Neal are both really good. Overall, this defense is really fast and has major upside.

Panthers season preview

cameron-newton-012816-getty-ftrjpg_10iszxfjsk5491iayyp46bpkp2

Offense: The offense begins and ends with superman himself, Cam Newton. It’s all mental with him. When he plays with swag and confidence within himself, he can be the best player in the NFL. He has to be MVP Cam for this team to be successful, and I believe he can be. Just has to take care of his body. The addition of Christian McCaffery will be huge, as he is both a great running back, and a hell of a receiver, giving Cam another reliable target. The wide receivers are okay, Kelvin Benjamin needs to progress and lose some weight. The rest of the guys are average but we have seen Cam do some great things with average. Greg Olsen, the tight end, continues to be mr. reliable, and Cam’s go to guy. Every year this guy seems to break 1,000 yards and 7+ touchdowns. The o-line is shaky, lets see if the addition of Matt Kalil helps things. Overall, they have some nice pieces, but this offense and team starts and finishes with Cam Newton and his confidence.

Defense: The defense is very solid once again. The defensive line is good, led by Kawann Short and Mario Addison. Vernon Butler, last years first round pick will look to start this year, and I really like the depth there. The linebackers are great when healthy. Luke Kuechly is a top 10 football player in the NFL and by far the best linebacker, he just needs to stay healthy and try to avoid concussions. Thomas Davis has resurrected his career and has been consistently great, while Shaw Thompson is an athletic freak who is great in coverage. All three linebackers can really cover, which is huge in a pass happy NFL. The secondary is good as well. The corners are a little shaky, outside of stud James Bradberry and Captain Munnerlyn. I like Daryl Worley though. Depth isn’t great but the unit has potential.  The safeties have a chance to be really good with two proven guys, Mike Adams and Kurt Coleman. Overall, this defense has a chance to be very good to great, with potential in all three levels of the defense.

Bears season preview

ct-mitch-trubisky-bears-process-biggs-spt-0514-20170513-1024x683

Offense: At QB, we have a little bit of a controversy.  Mike Glennon sucks. Let’s be honest. Never gotten the hype around him. Mitch Trubisky, who has looked good in preseason, needs to start ASAP. Jordan Howard at running back is the star of the offense and the star of the team. He was 2nd in the NFL in rushing yards. The wide receivers are horrible. Kevin White was a great prospect, but hasn’t been able to stay healthy his entire career. Cameron Meredith is clearly the best receiver and will have a nice year this year. Behind him are washed up players trying to salvage their careers. Tight end is okay I guess, Zach Miller is okay, nothing special. Hopefully rookie Adam Shaheen can develop. The Tackles are a mess, but the interior o-line with Kyle Long, Josh Sitton, and Cody Whiteheir are all really good.

Defense: I really like this defense. Like really like it. Akiem Hicks, Eddie Goldman, and Jonathan Bullard makeup a strong interior defensive line, and Leonard Floyd, Sam Acho, Pernell Mcphee,  Willie Young all are very good, especially Floyd being the star of the defense. They can all really rush the passer. The Linebacking core is also really good led by Jerrell Freeman and Danny Trevathan. The struggle of the defense is the cornerback group. Prince Amukamara and Bryce Callahan are average, and there is no depth behind them. The safeties are good with Quinten Demps and Adrian Amos. Overall, I love the potential of this group.

Lions season preview

NFL: AUG 18 Preseason - Bengals at Lions

Offense: At the most important position in sports, the Lions have one of the best in Matthew Stafford. With big numbers, and a clutch gene that led to 8 come from behind victories last year, he is now firmly in the discussion as an Elite QB. The running backs are average. I like Theo Riddick as a Pass catching back and Ameer Abdullah has nice potential as a change of pace back, but they don’t have one guy to take the ball 15-20 times a game and take pressure off of Stafford. I like the potential at wide receiver, as I expect Golden Tate to have a huge year. Marvin Jones blew up early, but struggled late in the year. Don’t love the depth behind those two as they lost Anquan Boldin to free agency. They did a lot to help protect Stafford, by adding TJ Lang and Ricky Wagner. If former first round pick Laken Tomlinson improves and Taylor Decker comes back from injury, this o-line has the potential to be quite good. Eric Ebron is a solid option at tight end but still has not lived up to his potential as a huge mismatch. Overall, this offense will heavily rely on Stafford once again.

Defense: The Defensive Line is average. Ziggy Ansah was great 2 years ago, but battled injuries last year and struggled. Let’s hope he gets back on track. Kerry Hyder was good last year but needs to improve on adding balance to his game instead of just being a pass rusher. Ngata is getting old in the middle and is not the same. A’Shawn Robinson has been good so far in limited time, but has to prove he can do it with effort 100% of the time. The Linebacker core isn’t great either. Jarrad Davis was a fabulous pick, but they need more then him to be good and the guys they have right now will not cut it. The secondary is solid. I love Darius Slay, and Nevin Lawson is solid opposite, but they don’t have much after that. The Safeties are quite good, with both Glover Quin and Tavon Wilson being productive and receiving grades of 80+ on PFF.
