NBA draft big board and lottery mock draft

NBA DRAFT BIG BOARD

  1. Luka Doncic- Point forward Real Madrid: Many don’t know the guy because he played overseas and is viewed as a bit of an unknown, but nothing can be further from the truth. He won MVP for real Madrid against established professionals, and has all the skills and intangibles to become a great NBA Player. He has experience, he has a tremendous IQ, he is a slick and creative passer, he can create his own shot and he plays with an edge. Think a combination of Manu and Harden. He is a mediocre athlete, but I can overlook that due to his high basketball IQ.
  2. Marvin Bagley- PF Duke: He has his flaws, but you can just watch this guy and immediately see his immense talent. He has been the best player on every court he has stepped on since he was 8 years old. So what makes him so special? For one, he plays extremely hard and has the athleticism to match his effort. He has an incredible first step, is a crafty finisher around the rim, and attacks the offensive and defensive glass. He just stands out. He has his limitations on defense and his jumper looks like a work in progress, but I believe in him.
  3. DeAndre Ayton- C Arizona: The guy is a physical freak. He is a legit 7 footer with a long wingspan who can also shoot plus has the athleticism that NBA teams desire. It is all there physically, but mentally his work ethic and defensive instincts and intelligence are in question. Great talent, hope he puts it all together.
  4. Mo Bamba- C Texas: Physically he is a freak of nature like anything I have ever seen. He has the longest wingspan ever recorded at the combine, while also showing the ability to shoot and very good instincts and shot blocking ability at the defensive end. He has tremendous amounts of potential to be Rudy Gobert with a jumpshot.
  5. Mikal Bridges- SF Villanova: Ideal fit for the modern NBA. Can shoot the three and is a very good perimeter defender. Good athlete, and is a very accomplished college player. He will be a very good pro.
  6. Trae Young- PG Oklahoma: He is a very flashy and exciting, but polarizing prospect. He took College Basketball by storm with his amazing shot making and vision, as he led the country in points and assists. But he is undersized and has a tough time with turnovers. He could be 75% of Steph Curry or he could be Trey Burke.
  7. Jaren Jackson Jr- C Mich State- I doubt his star potential, but his floor is very high. He can switch on defense and will be able to protect the rim, as well as hit the occasional three. I just don’t see the offensive ceiling at other people see. I see him as a Serge Ibaka type.
  8. Collin Sexton- PG Alabama: A guy that will stick around in the league due to his aggressive scoring style and his ferocious defense and competitiveness. He may be a little raw in terms of overall skill, but he is a hard worker who will be in the league for a while.
  9. Michael Porter Jr- F Missouri: I see why people love him. He has tremendous size to go along with a smooth jump shot and descent athleticism. But his flaws scare me to death. I see an isolation scorer with tunnel vision who is lazy on defense and has serious injury concerns. I can see him carving out a role as a Gallinari type of player, but never the star he could have been.
  10. Wendell carter jr- PF Duke: Carter does everything pretty well, but is a master of none, which leads me to think that he is going to be a solid role player in the league. He can pass, defend, rebound, and can score a little, but he never jumps off the screen in any way.
  11. Robert Williams C Texas A&M
  12. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander PG Kentucky
  13. Kevin Knox SF Kentucky
  14. Lonnie Walker PG Miami
  15. Miles Bridges SF Mich State
  16. Zhaire Smith SF Texas Tech
  17. Donte Divencenzo SG Villanova
  18. Khyri Thomas PG Creighton
  19. Jerome Robinson G Boston College
  20. Jalen Brunson PG Villanova

Grade:81

Round 3

Walton is a very athletic runner with great speed and agility. He can make guys miss with ease. He even has solid vision and also is willing in Pass pro. he is coming off a torn ACL so his draft stock is curious, but his playmaking ability is undeniable.

strengths

Walton athleticism is one of the best in the class. He has great speed and unreal quickness. He can avoid tackles with ease and make the defenders look silly. He has a great job of cutting up the field and catching the ball out of the backfield. He has also shown effort in Pass Pro. His vision is inconsistent, but sometimes he sees the field very well.

Weaknesses:

He tore his ACL in the middle of the season. That will cause his stock to take a hit. He tends to get cute and try to hit the homerun every time instead of getting the easy 4 yards. He is a smaller back who has durability issues. He sometimes panics and looses his patience.

Strengths: Wadley is a smaller back, but makes up for it with his vision, shiftiness, and receiving out of the backfield. He will never wow you with his tape, but he is always very solid. He seems like a great leader and his production has always been there.

Weaknesses: Wadley is a small back who lacks top end speed. Or even above average speed. He can slip tackles, but he rarely breaks them for more then a few yards. His pass protection is bad, like he is afraid to get physical, so it will be hard for him to stay on the field in the pros.

Rest of QB grades NFL DRAFT

Kyle Lauletta- Richmond

Strengths: Lauletta is a QB from a small school, but when you turn on the film, there is definitely a lot to like. Lauletta is an accurate QB with good mechanics. He also has solid mobility and good pocket presence, as he can move around in the pocket. He also does a nice job of throwing on the run and showed toughness within the pocket. Overall, he is an underrated guy who can eventually develop into a starter.

Weakness: Lauletta doesn’t have a noodle arm, but his arm is pretty average. He is a guy from a one read system so he never really had to go through his progressions. His field vision will definitely have to improve.  He also makes questionable decisions, has trouble with turnovers, overthrows his receivers from time to time, and even has trouble with the snap. He is also a smaller QB which makes me wonder if he will hold up at the next level.

Grade:83

Round 3

Mason Rudolph- Oklahoma State

Strengths: Rudolph is a guy coming from a Mike Gundy offense, so he put up some huge numbers. But Rudolph has a descent amount of traits that makes him intriguing. He has really good size for the position to go with pretty good accuracy. He is a guy who has really good mechanics, he takes care of the football, and his stats speak for themselves. He is a very accomplished QB.

Weakness: While Rudolph is a big dude, he kinda has a noodle arm. Also, he comes from a system which makes QB’s look better then they actually are by allowing them to complete easy passes. In this system, the QBs are required to make one read, so his field vision needs improvement. He is also kind of a mess in the pocket. I think he is a backup at the end of the day.

Grade:81

Late round 3

Luke Falk- Washington State

Strengths: With Luke Falk, you are going to get a guy who is smart, tough, and experienced. At Washington State, the guy took a beating behind a horrible offensive line, but he always stood strong in the pocket. He also is an accurate QB, specifically in the short and intermediate areas. He is one of the smartest QB’s in the draft as well, as he can diagnose zone defenses. But let me just say, Im not a fan.

Weakness: The guy has a noodle arm. His arm strength is hilariously bad. I highly doubt he has the arm to make all the NFL throws. He is not an athletic guy, his mobility is non-existent. What makes matters worse is his pocket presence is horrible. The guy can’t move and he isn’t savvy enough to move within the pocket, because you don’t have to be the most athletic guy to have good pocket awareness, but he just doesn’t have it , and that is really concerning.  He has a weird throwing motion as well, and his footwork is sloppy and inconsistent. He just isn’t good at all. No. Thanks.

Round 6

Josh Allen Scouting Report

Strengths

Josh Allen has his flaws, but no one can deny the talent that he possesses, which easily gives him the highest ceiling out of any QB in the draft. So the potential is there. The first thing that stands out when watching Allen is his arm strength. It is absurd. He easily has the arm to make every throw, and he falls into the category of “special” arm strength. Along with his ridiculous arm strength, he has ideal size for a QB. He is built like big ben, and he has the athleticism to move around in the pocket. He is clean off the field and has shown to have a strong work ethic. His 2016 tape was really good, where he showed solid field vision and good accuracy in the short to intermediate part of the field. He also does a really good job throwing on the run.  So what can he improve upon?

Weakness

So what can he improve upon? Literally everything else. His mechanics are okay but need serious work, his footwork is all over the place, his accuracy can be a mess, he tends to stare down his receivers, and he has no feel within the pocket. He can have a perfectly clean pocket and abandon it for no reason.  All of this is concerning. But the two things that worry me the most are lack of touch and decision making. He seems to fire every throw instead of understanding touch passes. And the last thing is decision making. I want to throw my computer across the room whenever I see him roll out and throw across his body, overthrow his target and throw an interception. The guy has a ton of talent, but he doesn’t seem to have a feel for the game. I see the talent, but I am going to need to see it to believe it.

Lamar Jackson Scouting Report

dsc_9718.jpg

Strengths

Lamar Jackson is a special talent. When you watch him, you tend to sit back and just say “wow”. What stands out when watching Jackson is his dynamic playmaking ability. Whether with his cannon of an arm or running ability like nothing I’ve ever seen, he really made college defensive coordinator have a hard time sleeping. So what are his strengths? The first thing that jumps off the screen is his electrifying speed. You can’t let him escape the pocket because if you do, it’s like a running back in the open field. But he is isn’t just a runner, he can throw the Ball with effectiveness. He has a huge arm, and uses it to make big time throws down the field. His mechanics and accuracy have also improved dramatically. With the type of athlete Jackson is, I wouldn’t bet against him.

Weakness

Although Jackson is a hell of a talent, he does have his issues. While his accuracy is certainly better, he tends to overthrow the ball pretty frequently. But the biggest concern I have is his accuracy and mechanical breakdown when facing pressure. When pressure is in his face, he returns back to his old, broken mechanics. He gets scared when facing pressure, and that scares the death out of me. Outside of that, I think he is a pretty clean prospect, he just needs to continue to improve his accuracy, anticipation and field vision.

Baker Mayfield Scouting Report

Baker Mayfield  6’0  215 Lbs

Baker Mayfield

Strengths

Baker Mayfield, the most exciting player in college football, has moved onto the NFL after a very decorated and controversial career. The 6’0 215 pound reining Heisman winner has a lot going in his favor. The thing that really stands out is his improvisation and Mobility. He always seems to make something out of nothing. When a play breaks down, you can count on Baker to make a positive play happen, and usually, it tends to be a big play. His ability to scramble, make plays, and feel the defenders, is pretty special. He also has great accuracy on all three levels. He can hit the defender in the numbers short, intermediate, and especially deep, and for a guy his size, his arm strength. His arm strength is maximized because of his great footwork and mechanics. Another thing is he uses his eyes very well. He can go through reads but also looks off defenders to manipulate them into thinking he’s going one way when he is really going the other way the entire time. Overall, there is a ton to like with Mayfield, as his production and talent cannot be denied, along with his leadership and on the field intangibles.

Baker Gif 1

Weakness: There are two major on the field concerns that I have with Mayfield. The first is his height. There is nothing he can do about it, but his 6 foot/6’1 frame is scary, considering how few QB’s are successful at that height. Finding throwing windows will be a struggle for him, and passes will be batted down. The second is he holds onto the ball way to long. Yes, his innovation skills are awesome, but sometimes, you have to just throw the ball away and live for another down. This clip here shows a nice play in CFB, but one that would be a disaster 10 yard sack in the NFl. He just needs to be smarter with the football and know when a play is dead. Holding onto the ball too long gets QB’s in trouble. And yes, the off the field stuff gives me hesitation on his maturity, but with his leadership and how much his teammates love him, I am not too worried about his locker room effect.

Round 1

Josh Rosen Scouting Report

Strengths: When it comes to Josh Rosen, you can see why scouts are drooling over this guy. It’s because he looks the part. He throws a very pretty ball. His mechanics are flawless, it looks like he was born to be a quarterback. He has very good accuracy as well. He countlessly makes throws that are NFL throws, and knows whether to put touch on the ball or to fire it in. He is a very smart QB as well. His football IQ is off the charts. He has good size for the position, as he stands at 6’4. Overall, when you watch Rosen, he fits the prototype. He has the size, smarts, and can throw with accuracy, anticipation, and touch on all three levels. Whats not to like?

Josh Rosen

Weaknesses: Well, there is a lot not to like, in my opinion. The first thing that really bothers me about his game is his lack of mobility. He cannot move in the pocket, and in a league that is continuing to go towards mobility, he is a statue in the pocket. His pocket presence is fine, but he does not have the athleticism to dodge defenders, and extend plays. Another thing I am not head over heels for is his arm strength. His arm is good, but he has no pop or zip when he throws. His velocity isn’t great, and I don’t know if his arm strength on the deep ball will be good enough against NFL players with that kind of speed. Combine that with a guy who has trouble staying healthy, it is curious to me why everyone is so sure about this guy. He never won in college, and doesn’t seem to have that clutch gene or killer instinct. I don’t mind that he is outspoken, but all these concerns scare me to death. I just don’t think he is as sure-fire of a prospect as everyone says he is.

Round: 1

Sam Darnold scouting report

Strengths: Let me get this out of the way. If any of you who watched Darnold stink it up in his bowl game against Ohio State are proclaiming him as a bust without actually watching his tape, then you sound like an uneducated idiot. There is a lot to like about Darnold’s game. The first is his accuracy. Whether he is on the move or standing in the pocket, he has pinpoint accuracy. He has a great feel for where his guys are on the field and hits them in places where they can catch the ball and make a play. Along with accuracy, comes his Anticipation and Ball placement. His ability to throw receivers open is advanced beyond his years. He makes anticipation throws that many guys in the NFL can’t make. Along with that, he not only throws the ball accurately, but his ball placement, especially over the middle of the field, is excellent. His pocket presence is also awesome. He has a slick way of maneuvering within the pocket. He isn’t the most athletic guy, but his improvisation within the pocket is fun to watch. He is a guy who can make something out of nothing. He is a smart kid and a good leader. Teammates seem to really like him. His field vision is also really good. He does a nice job of going through his progressions and hitting the right guy. Overall, there is a lot to like about his game.

sam-darnold-declare-draft

Weaknesses: While there is a lot to like about Darnolds game, there are definitely some questions and concerns about him. The first is his lack of arm strength. While his arm is fine, it is not elite and behind the likes of Rosen’s, Allen’s, Jackson’s, and Mayfield’s. His mechanics are funky as well. His motion is so long that it makes his receivers windows tighter, since the separation does not last as long due to his long windup. He needs to tighten it up to make it easier on himself because the windows get tighter in the NFL. But the biggest concern I have about him is his turnovers. He is a risk taker, and sometimes it works out, but a lot of the times, it doesn’t. He also has a hard time holding onto the football when he gets hit. His fumbling is a problem.

Overall: He is a great, but raw, talent who has a lot of the tools to be a great QB, he just needs to work on his mechanics, and decision making .
